Group Therapy Session

What is Group Support?

Group support brings together individuals facing similar challenges in a safe, confidential space facilitated by trained professionals. It's a powerful therapeutic modality that leverages the healing power of shared experience.

Unlike individual therapy, group support offers multiple perspectives, collective wisdom, and the opportunity to practice new skills in a supportive environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is one of the most common concerns! Our facilitators are trained to create a comfortable environment where:

  • Participation at your own pace is encouraged - you don't have to share until you're ready
  • Silence is respected - you can participate by listening
  • Gradual exposure helps build confidence over time
  • Many members start out feeling shy but become more comfortable as trust develops

Sharing that you feel anxious about sharing is actually a great way to start - you'll likely find others feel the same!

Confidentiality is our top priority. We establish strict group agreements that include:

  • What's shared in group stays in group - this is the fundamental rule
  • No identifying information about other members is shared outside group
  • Professional facilitation ensures boundaries are maintained
  • Legal exceptions (risk of harm to self/others) are clearly explained

We discuss confidentiality thoroughly in the first session and all members must agree to these terms before participating. Breaches of confidentiality result in removal from the group.

Absolutely! In fact, many people find this combination particularly effective:

  • Individual therapy provides personalized attention and deeper exploration of personal issues
  • Group support offers social connection, multiple perspectives, and practical skill practice
  • Complementary benefits - they work well together to address different aspects of healing
  • Cost-effective - group reduces overall therapy costs while maintaining support

We can coordinate with your individual therapist if you'd like, or help you find one if you don't currently have one.

We understand that life happens! Our policy is:

  • Flexibility for occasional absences - we expect 1-2 absences over a 12-week group
  • Advance notice preferred - lets the group know you won't be there
  • No makeup sessions - due to group nature, we can't offer individual makeups
  • Continued payment - fees continue to hold your spot
  • Excessive absences - may require discussion about group commitment

If you know you'll miss more than 2 sessions, we might recommend waiting for the next group cycle to ensure you get the full benefit.
